    Abstract
An individual's personality defines who they are. It is said that it starts to develop at an early age. There is however the great nature nurture debate as to what constitutes and individual's personality and self-esteem really. Is it the genetic pool or how they were raised? This study seeks to find out the relationship between birth order and self-esteem specific case study of firstborn, middle-born, lastborn and only child in Nairobi. Data was collected using a questionnaire and the case studies were already pre-determined for the study. The findings showed that most firstborns were bound to take up leadership roles as they automatically end up taking care of their younger siblings. Middle-borns were found to be quite ambitious whereas lastborns were found to be quite dependant. Only children were found to be very independent and shared characteristics with the firstborns.
