    KeFA Grant Proposal Writing Course August

    Sponsored by A Kenya Free of AIDS Project (KeFA), University of Nairobi's Centre for HIV Prevention and Research, University of Washington (USA), National Institutes of Health (USA) Will be held at: University of Nairobi's Chiromo Campus 1 August to 12 August 2011. Deadline of Application: 24 July 2011 Aim and Content This is an interactive 2 week course, with entry by application, limited to faculty and post-doctoral researchers. The application will be a 1page description of a grant proposal that the applicant would like to work on during the course (for NIH, a foundation or NGO, or an international institution like the WHO). Proposals will be discussed by the group ondays 1, 5 and 10. By the end of the course, a complete 6 page draft proposal will have been written with feedback from both the participants and the instructors. Week 1 1.Introduction and presentation of student concept proposals 2.Funding sources for different types of research and capacity building 3.How to read and decode a funding announcement 4.Specific Aims: summarizing your proposal 5.Student presentations and brainstorming: Specific Aims Week 2 6.Background: Summarizing previous research 7.Observational and Experimental research: Developing clear, logically tight research strategies 8.Study design: Choosing the right methodology for your Specific Aims 9.Writing lab 10.Student presentations and brainstorming: 6 page proposals Eligibility: The applicants must be: 1.faculty or postdoctoral level researchers working with units affiliated with the KeFA project at the UoN, the APHRC or the Population Council 2.committed to HIV prevention research 3.willing to participate in the full workshop 4.willing to help develop and co-teach this course in future years. Costs of participation: The workshop will be free. Training and writing materials and morning/afternoon teas will be provided. Application: All applications should be made on online .
