Africa tech challenge sponsorship

Abstract

Following the launch of the Africa Tech Challenge by the Ministry Of Education and the Chinese government, Three Fifth year students from the University of Nairobi, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering department, namely Kaimba Brencil Gislop, Wanjiku Josephine Njeri & Livoi Brendah Ingado enrolled and were selected to participate in the challenge.The ATC challenge which will be taking place at the Technical University of Kenya and will entail:A 10-day preliminary training from 28th July to 6th August during which time they will be trained on how to operate and maintain a lathe machine by Chinese Engineers from Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC International).

After the training, the first part of the completion takes place on 11th to 12th august, after which the qualifying teams will proceed to the next stage of training between the 13th of August and 7th September. The final completion will be on the 8th to 9th September.The winning team will be awarded an 8.7 million ($100,000) contract, an internship, technical support and other monetary awards.Each team taking part in the challenge is required to have a technical staff throughout the course of the training. The department has identified a competent production Technologist (Mr David P M Mwangi) who will undergo the same training as the participants and act as the advisor during the same period.
