Abstract

This analysis aims to shed light on fertility patterns and child mortality and their linkages to family planning in two areas in Kenya. The unit of analysis is 65 women in Bungoma, Western Kenya and 67 women in Kwale at the Coast....The study is concentrated among two sub-ethnic groups: the Bukusu belonging to the Luhyas (Bungoma) and the Digos belonging to the Mijikendas (Kwale). This at the same time implies different religious affiliation. While Bungoma is predominantly Catholic, Kwale is Muslim.
