    Abstract
3p.m. on September 11th 2015, Okoth Okombo, a famous professor in Linguistic and Language Department of the University of Nairobi, gave a lecture about how to be a good teacher for the new volunteers in Confucius Institute. In this lecture, Prof. Okoth Okombo demonstrated the three necessities to be a good teacher and some problems which need to be noticed during language teaching. The lecture was professional, vivid, funny and profound. Volunteers not only felt the spirit of Kenya teacher, but also learned a lot in this lecture. What’s more, it gave the volunteers a lot of space to reflect themselves. Prof Okoth Okombo introduced the three necessities to be a good teacher, which are competence, commitment and skill. And explained them with vivid stories and examples. He also explained his understanding of the model in language teaching. Teachers, as a model, should try to reduce the distance between students and themselves step by step, and help them to be a model finally. Through the lecture, the volunteers are rightly directed and have a clear idea of how to be a good teacher.
