First years' orentation- principal and dean's address
Abstract
This week- 14th- 20th September 2015- the College of Education and External Studies has admitted 1,070 students who will be pursuing various Bachelors programmes under the School of Education. The students will pursue B.Ed (Arts), B.Ed (Early childhood), B.Ed (Physical Education and Sports), B.Ed (Science) and B.Ed (ICT) over the next 4 years.
The action packed week kicked off on Monday 14th September 2015 with 2 days dedicated to students registration both at Kikuyu and Kenya Science Campuses.
On Wednesday, 16th September 2015; the Principal, Prof. Isaac Jumba led the Deputy Principal, Prof. Horace Ochanda, Dean, School of Education, Chairmen of Departments, Directors and Sections heads and staff in welcoming the new students to the College.
While speaking at the students’ orientation event; the principal gave a brief background of the College, highlighting major milestones the College has achieved over the years. The principal assured students of quality education stating “the college has over 150 academic and over 100 administrative and support staff working very hard to ensure the students receive all the support they need in their academic, professional, social growth and development”
The Deputy Principal; Prof. Ochanda in his welcome address mentioned the need for students to take full advantage of the facilities and resources within the College and University at large. He also assured students that they will receive the best academic support from the best professors and lecturers in the country.
Also speaking at the event, the Dean; School of Education Prof. Winston Akala largely urged the students to work very hard in the studies. “The School of Education offers 5 Post graduate scholarships to the best students; we will give scholarships to the 5 students who will pass with first class honor’s 4 years from today”

Also speaking at the event was;
Prof. Odumbe; Director, Centre for Open and Distance Learning
Confucius officials and sectional heads. Speaker after speaker spoke of the courses offered and services provided by the department and urged students to visit the departments to get academic advice and support.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mbithi will be addressing all students admitted in the 6 colleges in 2016/2017 academic year on Thursday, 17th September 2015

Classes commence on 21st September 2015 at respective campuses.
