    Abstract
In Kenya 108 patients attending hospital were given abdominal ultrasonic examinations. The clinical diagnoses included amoebic liver abscess and hydatid disease. The ultrasonic pictures are presented and discussed. Because of its ability to distinguish solid from fluid-filled lesions, ultrasound scanning was found to be the most useful initial investigation for the differentiation of hepatic masses and it was ideal for the differential diagnosis of abdominal cysts.
