    Abstract
The effects of different cultivation systems on soil OM content, soil erosion, soil moisture and cover crops are reviewed. It was concluded that although minimum cultivation has advantages over conventional systems in soil and water conservation and soil fertility, the high cost of herbicides would be prohibitive for many small-scale African farmers.
