    The Effect of Technology in Strategy Implementation at the Nairobi County Government, Kenya

    Abstract
    Strategy implementation is the sum total of the activities and choices required for the execution of a strategic plan. Strategy implementation to a firm ensures function, work break down structure, implementation schedule, and cost allocation and evaluation methodology of a strategy. This study investigated the effect of technology in strategy implementation at the Nairobi County Government, Kenya. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of technology in strategy implementation at the Nairobi County Government. The study adopted a case study and the unit of analysis was the Nairobi County Government so as to ensure deep analysis in answering the research questions. The respondents consisted of the IT officials, middle level managers and other employees. Primary data was collected through one on one interview with the respondents by use of interview guide. Secondary data was through reports, library materials, journals, internet and feedback. Content analysis was used to analyze the views of the respondents about the effect of technology in strategy implementation at the Nairobi County Government, Kenya. The study established the respondents were in favor of involvement of technology in the strategy implementation process. This indicated that IT was applied in large extent in the strategy implementation, evaluation and control. The study established that there must be well and organized structures in the organization which was to have people who have equal skills and knowhow. This would help define roles and responsibilities. The results revealed that the organization formulated appropriate strategies which were befitting its objectives. The study revealed that there were challenges in communications which were affecting strategy implementation and hence needed to be addressed through a well-defined organization structure. The study indicates that in order to enhance competitiveness in strategy implementation and management process, there was need to align technology with strategy. The study recommends that management can elicit more support for the technological ways in implementing strategies by having clear and communicated career paths for their employees, that the organization leaves room for improvement to ensure unity of efforts in support of strategy implementation. A similar study may also be carried out on how external factors affect strategy implementation.
