dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors influencing students’
enrolment in Technical, Vocational Education and Training Institutions in Butula
Sub-county, Busia County. The specific objectives of the study were: To examine
the extent to which the courses offered influence students’ enrolment at TVET
Institutions in Butula sub county, to establish the influence of adequacy of
teaching staff on student enrolment at TVET institution, to determine the extent
to which adequacy of teaching and learning resources at the TVET institutions
influence student enrolment and to establish the extent to which the attitude of the
students influence enrolment at TVET institutions. The researcher adopted
descriptive research design. The target population comprised of 3 principals, 101
tutors and 661students from all the technical institutions in Butula sub-county.
Quantitative data was analyzed by use of descriptive statistics such as
frequencies, and percentages. Qualitative data generated from interview
schedules and open ended questions was organized and analyzed into themes,
categories and patterns, pertinent to the objectives of the study. Inferential
statistics such as correlation analysis was also used to determine the relationship
between types of courses offered, adequacy of teaching and learning resources,
adequacy of teaching staff, learners attitude and student enrolment. From the
study findings the courses offered influenced the students’ enrolment in the
TVET institutions (85.2%). Adequacy of teaching staffs influenced student
enrolment at TVET institutions (59.6%). Adequacy of training resources
influenced student enrolment at TVET institutions (62.9%). Attitudes of the
learners influenced enrolment of students at TVET institutions (58.3%).
Adequate and qualified human resource provision to TVET institutions should be
made a key priority by national and county governments. All the stakeholders
including the national and county governments should ensure that TVET
institutions have adequate and modern facilities to provide quality training. | en_US |
