The study examined quality of education in public secondary schools in Webuye division of Bungoma District. The purpose of this study was to find out factors that influence academic performance of students in KCSE examinations in public secondary schools. The sample of the study included head teachers and two teachers selected from nine secondary schools in the division. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data by use of Percentages mean. frequency and mode. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) computer programme was also used to analyze the correlation coefficient between the dependent and independent variables. The stud) indicated that school based factors; learning facilities, class size, teacher quality, school leadership and school finances affect performance in the KCSE examination. The study has provided the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, teachers and parents on ways of improving the internal efficiency of schools in Kenya and reduction of wastage in education.
