Factors affecting training needs of workers in organizations (the case of government training institute, Mombasa)

Abstract

The clerical officers dispersed in Accounts, Records (Registry), procurement and library sections have diverse backgrounds and work experiences; some of whom have stagnated on one job group for many years which may be a reason on reduced mobility, if at all, to higher grades resulting to their being complacement and lose drive. The study looked at the poor service delivery I performance by the clerks due to lack of training and examined their knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA) through training needs assessment. Data used was both primary and secondary and random sampling design was employed. The researcher found that the workers are not trained and that the findings will address the same. In chapter one, the study highlights the mission, vision and the structural organization of the institute. It attempted to explain the success, achievements and constraints in the realization of its goals and objectives. In chapter two, the study investigated and looked into the performance gaps at the institute through training and provides possible ways of addressing those gaps. 7 The researcher hopes that the findi9gs of the study will go along way in improving the work performance by addressing the gaps through training.
