    Motivational needs of employees in provincial director of education's office in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Abstract
    This study investigated the motivational needs of employees in the provincial Director of Education's office in Nairobi. There was need to establish whether there existed a significant difference between gender, age and academic qualifications out of 47 employees sampled for the study, 46 completed the questionnaire. Simple random sampling technique was used. The research instrument was the employees' questionnaire. The findings were as follows: The employees identified the following as their motivational needs. Work content, remuneration, interpersonal relations, working conditions and work environment and recognition to be addressed as a matter of priority. The study also revealed that there was no significant difference between employees motivational needs and their gender, age and academic qualifications. These findings were to address the objectives of the study which included; to identify, motivational needs of employees PDE's office in Nairobi, to determine if there was any significant difference between motivational needs of employees and their gender; to establish if there was any significant difference between motivational needs of employees and their age and establish if there was any significant difference between motivational needs of employees and their academic qualifications. The following recommendations were made based on the findings of the study. The employees in the PDE's office in Nairobi were not satisfied with the motivational needs. Their mean score was l.32 which was below 1.5. There is need to address their motivational needs. The work content should be clearly defined so as to enable the employer use his or her professional skills. The remuneration should be improved to reduce the gap between the lowly paid and the highly paid. Working conditions should be improved and to start with, computers should be installed in their officers. There is need for promotions to be from within and frequent dialogues to be initiated to improve on interpersonal relationships.
