Education is the backbone of a strong nation. Education promotes economic development of a country and makes its citizens able to develop economically, socially and politically.UNESCO through education for all movement has been aiming to meet the learning needs of all children. Education for all movement took off at the world.Education conference in 1990 in Dakar. Since then the government, non government organizations, civil societies, bilateral and multilateral donor agencies and the media have taken the cause of providing basic education for all children. In Kenya the government introduced free primary education in 2003 which increased enrollment in primary schools. The purpose of introducing free primary education was to enroll children in school especially standard one. This would however reduce poverty, illiteracy and ill health among the citizens. Even with introduction of free primary education the government has not been able to implement it in some parts of this country especially the Arid and semi-Arid areas. This study therefore focused on the influence of social economic status on standard one enrollment in Central Division Isiolo District. The study tried to find out whether where parents live influence standard one enrollment; this involves the catchment area in Central Division which is grouped into urban and rural. The study also investigated whether educational background of the parents influences standard one enrollment, whether parental income and type of job influences standard one enrollment. The study found out that parental income, type of job, educational background and place of residence have a lot of influence on standard one enrollment especially in Arid and Semi-Arid areas. In chapter four data presentation, analysis and interpretation of results were done, the emphasis was laid on the objectives of the study. Data is presented in form of frequency tables, percentages and the number of standard one pupils enrolled in schools, in Central Division of Isiolo District. Chapter five reveals the summary of the study which include study findings, discussion and conclusions. It also highlights on recommendations and suggestion for further studies.en_US
