    Abstract
Growth Monitoring Programme was started in Kenya in 1985 in nine pilot districts as a result of co-operation between GoK and UNICEF. But to date every district in the•country is implementing the programme. Child Health and Information System (CHANIS) being a major component of (GMP) was established alongside the programme for assessment of children's weight through closer attention to growth patterns. Data which is collected from every child weighed at the health facility is handled manually until it reaches the Ministry of Health headquarters. The proposals made in the project are a~ a result of investigations carried out on the existing system in Kakamega district as well as MOH headquarters with a view of establishing a computerized system. Please see Appendix B for evaluation tools. The project report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter presents a review of the present system. Chapter two highlights the problems faced and possible solutions and chapter three presents the results of the systems design effort. Chapter four comprises of the designed computer system and at the end of the text we have users computer manual and appendices.
