Teachers perceptions on the role of quality assurance and standards officers on quality of education in Nairobi public secondary schools, Kenya

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers' perceptions on the role of quality assurance and standards in promoting and maintaining quality of education. Improvement in quality of education was measured in terms of the extent to which teachers were assisted by Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASOs) to improve in their classroom teaching, preparation and keeping of teaching records, assessment and evaluation of students, role modelling and mentoring and organization of classroom resources. In conclusion, the role of QASOs was perceived by teachers as helpful in varying degrees. A replication of this study to a larger sample was recommended for comparison purposes. Future studies can also focus on the role of QASOs in helping principals improve in their management functions.
