    Corporate Strategies Influencing The Performance Of Sugar Industries In Kenya: a Case Of Nzoia Sugar Company

    Abstract
    This study was to investigate the corporate strategies influencing performance of Kenyan sugar Industries: A case ofNzoia Sugar Company. The study was guided by the following objectives; to determine how IT influences the performance of Nzoia sugar Company; to establish the extent to which internal strategy influence the performance of Nzoia Sugar Company; to determine how competitive strategy influence the performance ofNzoia Sugar Company; and to determine how business portfolio strategy influence the performance of Nzoia Sugar Company. The study adopted descriptive survey design which was used to obtain information describing the existing phenomenon. The target population was 1299. The estimated sample size was 297. Stratified random sampling was used in the stu~y with departments forming relevant strata. Content validity was used where the researcher shared the research instrument with his supervisor. Split-half method was employed to test the reliability of the instrument. A structured questionnaire entitled corporate strategies influencing performance of Kenyan sugar Industry; a case of Nzoia sugar Company questionnaire (CSIPKSIC(N)) was prepared and distributed to the respondents in all the selected departments. The questionnaires were then collected after one week. 234 questionnaires were completely filled and were used for analysis. Data collected was checked for completeness and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results for quantitative data are presented in tables and figures while qualitative data is presented in prose. The study found that IT strategy and internal strategy were highly utilized at Nzoia sugar Company; Competitive strategies that were in place could not counteract the price differentiations occasioned by the duty free imported sugar from the COMESA region. Business portfolio strategy was on average utilized at Nzoia Sugar Company. The researcher recommends research on; corporate strategies influencing performance of Kenyan sugar Industries: A comparative analysis between Government owned and Private millers; and Government policies
